Jen & Johnny’s Wedding at Rugby School Chapel and Skylark Farm
Wedding Photography by Emma Lowe Photography
Jen and Johnny’s June wedding was one of the hottest I’ve photographed, with temperatures reaching 34°C! Their day began with a beautiful ceremony at Rugby School Chapel before everyone headed to Skylark Farm near Daventry for the celebrations.
Despite the heat, Jen and Johnny were determined to have fun with their photographs, and I loved their enthusiasm. From the impressive surroundings of the chapel to cartwheels and laughter with their wedding party, there were plenty of moments that made their day memorable.
A Wedding Ceremony at Rugby School Chapel
My photography coverage began at Rugby School Chapel, where I met Johnny and his groomsmen as they welcomed family and friends.
It was my first time photographing a wedding at the chapel, and I was immediately impressed by the architecture and beautiful interior. It’s a wonderful setting for a traditional wedding ceremony, and I particularly enjoyed capturing the scale of the building alongside the more personal moments between Jen, Johnny and their guests.
I photographed the ceremony as naturally as possible, concentrating on the couple and the reactions of their family and friends.
By the time we stepped outside, the June sunshine was already incredibly strong. I’d come prepared with factor 50 sun cream, which turned out to be essential!
Sunshine and Photographs Outside the Chapel
After the ceremony, we gathered outside Rugby School Chapel for a few photographs with the bridesmaids and groomsmen.
The chapel provided a beautiful backdrop, and the sunshine was lovely, although the temperature was becoming quite intense.
Rather than keeping everyone outside for too long, Jen and Johnny decided to save most of their group photographs for Skylark Farm, where guests could enjoy a drink and find some shade.
It was a sensible decision, and we managed to capture some lovely photographs before everyone made their way to the reception.
Cartwheels and Confetti at Skylark Farm
Once we arrived at Skylark Farm, it was time for the group photographs, and this was where the fun really started!
Jen and Johnny had such a lively wedding party, and everyone was more than happy to get involved with some less traditional photographs.
I love it when couples are happy to have a laugh in front of the camera, and Jen and Johnny certainly were.
We captured some lovely relaxed photographs with their bridesmaids and groomsmen, but the highlight for me was when Jen and Johnny decided to do a cartwheel!
That was definitely a first for my wedding photography, and I couldn’t stop laughing. It’s not every day you see a bride and groom doing cartwheels in their wedding outfits!
These are the moments I particularly enjoy photographing because they show a couple’s personality and make their wedding gallery completely their own.
Couple Photographs in the Countryside
After the group photographs, I took Jen and Johnny for a few portraits around Skylark Farm.
The open fields and wooden structures gave us some lovely locations to work with, and I wanted to capture a mixture of romantic photographs and the more playful moments that suited them so well.
With temperatures reaching 34°C, we certainly weren’t going to spend too long standing in the sunshine!
We kept the photography relaxed, taking breaks when needed and making the most of the shade wherever possible.
I also found myself making regular trips into the air-conditioned ceremony room to cool down, along with the guests. I don’t think I’ve ever been quite so grateful for air conditioning at a wedding!
Despite the heat, Jen and Johnny were brilliant throughout, and I was really pleased with the variety of photographs we captured.
What I’ll Remember About Jen & Johnny’s Wedding
There are two things I’ll always remember about Jen and Johnny’s wedding: the incredible heat and how much fun everyone had!
Rugby School Chapel was a wonderful place to photograph for the first time, and I loved the contrast between the traditional ceremony and the relaxed celebrations at Skylark Farm.
But my favourite part was definitely photographing Jen and Johnny with their wedding party. They weren’t afraid to be themselves, have a laugh or try something a little different.
The cartwheels were an unexpected bonus and made for some brilliant photographs!
It was also lovely working with the team at Skylark Farm, who looked after everyone so well on such a hot day.
Jen and Johnny, thank you for choosing me to photograph your wedding. I had a wonderful time capturing your day and wish you both every happiness together!
