Gamu & Andi's Wedding at Winstanley House, Leicester
Wedding Photography by Emma Lowe Photography
After several changes to their wedding date during the Covid pandemic, Gamu and Andi finally got to celebrate their wedding with their family and friends. I was so pleased to be there to photograph it, especially after all the uncertainty they’d experienced.
Their ceremony took place at St Mary’s Church in Barkby, followed by a reception at Winstanley House in Leicester. The day had a lovely autumnal feel, with rich burgundy and gold decorations, fairy lights and plenty of excitement from everyone involved.
Getting Ready with Gamu
I joined Gamu at the start of the day while she was getting ready with her mum, two bridesmaids and flower girl.
There was a lot happening in the room, with hair and makeup underway and everyone getting increasingly excited as the ceremony approached.
I particularly enjoyed photographing the little details Gamu had chosen, including her dress, shoes and accessories. These were mixed in with more natural photographs of everyone helping her get ready.
When Gamu finally stepped into her wedding dress, she looked absolutely beautiful. It was one of those moments when the excitement suddenly became very real, and I loved capturing everyone’s reactions.
A Church Wedding in Barkby
The ceremony was held at St Mary’s Church in the Leicestershire village of Barkby.
The church looked wonderful, with red and gold flowers decorating the pews and a deep red carpet leading towards the altar.
I particularly liked photographing Gamu as she walked down the aisle. The rich colours inside the church gave the photographs a lovely warmth and worked beautifully with the wedding’s styling.
After all the delays to their plans, it was especially nice to see Gamu and Andi finally having their ceremony and sharing the occasion with the people closest to them.
My Favourite Photograph at Winstanley House
Following the church ceremony, everyone travelled to Winstanley House for the reception.
I photographed Gamu and Andi arriving in their chauffeur-driven wedding car, with the house providing a lovely backdrop.
We were fortunate to have a dry afternoon, so I took them into the grounds for some photographs together before they returned to their guests.
One particular spot caught my eye: a wooden swing hanging beneath a large tree.
I absolutely loved this little setting, and the photograph I captured there became my favourite from their wedding. It was a little different from the more traditional portraits we’d taken outside the house and gave us something really personal to include in their gallery.
Winstanley House has some lovely places to explore with a camera, but sometimes it’s the simplest location that produces the photograph you remember most.
Celebrating After All the Postponements
Inside Winstanley House, the reception room had been decorated with burgundy and gold flowers, table details and twinkling fairy lights.
Everything looked so welcoming, and I enjoyed photographing the room before the celebrations continued.
There were still some Covid restrictions in place, including limitations on dancing, but that didn’t stop everyone from enjoying themselves.
It felt particularly special knowing how long Gamu and Andi had waited for their wedding day. Seeing their plans finally come together made it a memorable occasion to photograph.
For me, the photographs of Gamu getting ready, the church ceremony and that little tree swing at Winstanley House are the moments that stand out.
Gamu and Andi, thank you for choosing me to photograph your wedding. I’m so pleased you finally got to enjoy the day you’d been planning for so long, and I wish you both every happiness together.
