Catherine & Garry’s Wedding at Bromsgrove Register Office

Not every wedding needs a full day of photography. Catherine and Garry booked me for two hours to capture their wedding at Bromsgrove Register Office, giving them a lovely collection of photographs from the ceremony and celebrations afterwards without turning photography into the focus of their day.

From the start, they wanted everything to feel relaxed. They weren’t looking for lots of formal or heavily posed photographs, preferring natural moments with the people who had joined them to celebrate.

As it turned out, we ended up having rather more fun with the couple portraits than Catherine had expected!

A Relaxed Wedding at Bromsgrove Register Office

I joined Catherine and Garry at Bromsgrove Register Office to photograph their wedding and the people who had come to share the occasion with them.

After the ceremony, everyone headed outside for one of my favourite wedding traditions, the confetti shot. These photographs are always unpredictable, but that is part of what makes them so much fun. There are smiles, laughter, flying confetti and genuine reactions rather than something that needs to be perfectly posed.

With the confetti successfully thrown, there was time for Catherine and Garry to enjoy a glass of champagne in the small garden and celebrate with their guests.

Family and Group Wedding Photographs

Although Catherine and Garry wanted their photography to remain informal, it was still important to capture photographs of them with their family and guests.

We spent a little time creating the group photographs, keeping them relaxed and moving through them without taking everyone away from the celebrations for too long.

I also captured Catherine and Garry in their limousine, adding another part of the day to their collection and giving us a different setting for some of their photographs.

Beautiful Light for Wedding Photographs

It was a warm day, with the sunshine occasionally disappearing behind the clouds.

For a wedding photographer, that can actually create some of the loveliest conditions to work in. The slight cloud cover softened the sunlight and gave us flattering, even light without the harsh shadows and squinting that strong direct sunshine can sometimes create.

It meant I could concentrate on Catherine and Garry, their expressions and the moments between them without having to constantly work around difficult midday light.

From ‘Not Too Many Posed Photos’ to Loving the Experience

Catherine and Garry had been quite clear that they didn’t want lots of posed couple photographs.

That was absolutely fine with me. Couple portraits don’t have to mean standing stiffly in front of a camera or spending ages trying to create the perfect pose.

We started naturally and kept everything easy-going. As Catherine became more comfortable in front of the camera, something lovely happened. She began to really enjoy it.

Before long, we were creating far more couple portraits than originally planned!

Rather than feeling like a formal photography session, it became a genuinely enjoyable part of their wedding. Catherine and Garry were relaxed, laughing together and simply enjoying the experience, which gave me the opportunity to capture a wonderful selection of portraits that still felt like them.

Two Hours, Plenty of Memories

Catherine and Garry’s wedding was a perfect example of how much can be captured within a shorter wedding photography booking.

In two hours, I was able to photograph their wedding at Bromsgrove Register Office, the confetti celebrations, champagne in the garden, their family and group photographs, the limousine and a lovely collection of couple portraits.

Most importantly, none of it felt rushed or overly staged.

It was wonderful watching Catherine and Garry relax into the photography and simply enjoy themselves. Sometimes the couples who tell me they don’t want many posed photographs end up surprising themselves the most.
